Winning day at the races
If the winner didn’t have luck at the races, they certainly struck gold midweek.
Rumours were rife in Listowel last night that a local hit the €1.35 million jackpot on Wednesday. The winning ticket was bought in Garvey’s SuperValu on Convent Street on Friday, September 23.
A National Lottery spokesperson said it was a multi-draw ticket using the same numbers for eight draws. Wednesday night’s draw was the last of those eight draws.
The winning ticket for the top prize in the Lotto Plus 1 game was also sold in Kerry. Its lucky owner bought that ticket in Gleeson’s Spar, in College Green, Killarney.
The 100-plus staff in Garvey’s were celebrating yesterday following the news of the big win.
“We’re thrilled and delighted that someone was lucky enough to buy the winning ticket in our shop in Listowel,” said Caroline McEnery, HR director for the Garvey Group. “It’s a brilliant thing to happen to the town. We hope it’s a local person. Of course, we’re looking forward to their continued custom.”
