Housing waiting list ‘has grown to 150,000’

THE number of people on housing waiting lists has increased to 150,000 in the past year, the national housing agency Threshold said yesterday.

The latest official figures for the number of households on the waiting list is 48,413 - amounting to around 80,000 people.

But, said Threshold chairwoman Aideen Hayden, this is only the tip of the iceberg of the real figure now that the Government has changed the regulations regarding rent allowance.
