THE extent of cutbacks on Irish hospitals are reaching catastrophic proportions, according to a shock survey which shows that over 500 hospital beds have been shut down in the past year all over the country.

With one hundred more beds due for the chop in the coming weeks, the parties of the opposition have reacted angrily to Government cutbacks.

Last night, Labour Party deputy leader and spokesperson on health Liz McManus said the survey was the single biggest proof that the National Health Strategy was built on what she termed lies and unachievable policies.
