Contaminated linseed cake shipped from Netherlands

A consignment of contaminated linseed cake used in the manufacture of compound animal feed has been shipped from Rotterdam to Ireland, it was revealed last night.

The Department of Agriculture and Food confirmed that 3,700 tonnes of linseed cake with higher than permitted levels of hydrocyanic acid (HCN) had been shipped to this country.

It said it detained some 80% of the consignment and the remainder has been used in the manufacture of compound animal feed.
