IARNRÓD ÉIREANN last night rejected claims that staff rows have delayed the introduction of a €117m fleet of carriages on the Cork-Dublin route.

Platform 11, the rail passengers’ organisation, claimed the company’s plans to replace the role of train guards with the position of “train manager” on the 67 inter-city carriages has stalled the introduction of the carriages by almost six months.

They were delivered last July to be introduced into service by last December. But Platform 11 claimed that train guards are refusing to accept new work practices.
