Post office robbed after staff held at knifepoint

TWO men, one armed with a knife, held up staff at Ferns Post Office making their getaway with a substantial amount of money.

The men, wearing balaclavas, entered the North Wexford post office at about 5.20pm on Wednesday. One of the men approached the two staff members and held them at knifepoint while the second demanded money. The raiders then made away with the day's takings a substantial amount of cash.

Enniscorthy gardaí said neither staff member was injured in the raid, but both were left traumatised.

A garda spokesman said that as the raiders wore balaclavas it's difficult to know how old they were.

The investigation into the raid is continuing, and gardai have appealed to members of the public who were in the vicinity at the time to contact them with any information they may have, which will be treated in the strictest confidence.
