Gardaí ask locals to throw light on lamp post attacks

LIMERICK gardaí have been left in the dark about the motive behind an incident of wholesale vandalism to public lighting in the city.

The incident involved an attack on 30 lamp posts in the Delmange Park and Pinewood Gardens areas of Moyross that saw the protective covers on the lights broken and the bulbs damaged.

A garda spokesman at Mayorstone station said: “There is no doubt that someone must have seen these people engaged in this antisocial behaviour as the vandals would have needed a ladder to get at the lights. Public lighting is provided for the protection of life and property and we are very anxious that these vandals are brought to justice.”
