Runaway spending three-times target rate

FINANCE Minister Charlie McCreevy is still grappling with runaway public spending, which is increasing at almost three times the Government's target rate.

At the same time, unemployment has increased dramatically, according to separate figures also published yesterday.

Finance Department Exchequer returns to the end of July showed Government spending had increased by 22% on the previous year.
