INFORMAL exchanges took place yesterday between management and SIPTU in an effort to avert a strike, which could bring the curtain down on the Cork Opera House Christmas pantomime, due to open on Tuesday night next.

Last night it was still a case of ‘oh! no, it’s not’ as SIPTU strike notice, due to take effect on December 13, remained in place.

Both sides have expressed hopes that talks may get under way today in a determined effort to avert a strike and settle a dispute row over pay.
