Garda quizzed over series of armed robberies
The 42-year-old, on remand and facing a trial on separate charges in the near future, was arrested early yesterday morning at his home in Drogheda.
He was taken to Dundalk Garda Station where he was questioned by detectives involved in an ongoing investigation into a number of armed robberies in the area over the last year.
It follows a number of arrests since Saturday.
Three people, a 21-year-old woman, a man in his forties and a 29-year-old, have all been quizzed in connection with the raids.
The 29-year-old appeared in court on Monday.
The investigation centres on a number of armed raids, including one on a cash and carry in December in Dundalk when a gang of more than a dozen three of them wearing garda uniforms forced their way in and escaped with over 300,000 worth of cigarettes and cash. The suspended garda was arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours before being charged or freed.
Based in the Louth/Meath division, the garda had been suspended following his arrest.
The garda was later charged by investigating officers with a separate offence.
