Republicans blamed for Belfast bomb bid

DISSIDENT republicans were accused of trying to bomb Belfast city centre hours before 7,000 people took part in the city’s annual marathon yesterday

The bomb, described by police as substantial, was left beside the race route during the Sunday night.

It was made safe by army bomb disposal experts after a series of controlled explosions.
