Adams: IRA may have to go to aid peace process

SINN FÉIN leader Gerry Adams yesterday publicly accepted that the IRA may need to be removed as part of a sustainable peace process.

In several interviews, Mr Adams said “political unionists” were exploiting justifiable unionist fears and using the IRA and its weapons as an excuse to block progress.

“Republicans need to be prepared to grasp that nettle and remove that excuse so that the entire process can move forward,” he said.
