Website to publish details of major polluted sites across Europe

FACTORIES, farms and dumps which contribute towards Irish pollution have been listed on-line for the first time as part of a European-wide register.

The European Pollutant Emission Register website, launched in Copenhagen yesterday, includes colour maps allowing people to see at a glance the cause of pollution in their area.

More than 150 factories, pig farms and landfill sites in Ireland are listed in the register which includes more than 10,000 large industrial facilities from 16 countries.
