Theme park plans on track, say backers
The Vega City consortium said it intends to develop what it described as a ‘family entertainment destination’ in the Dublin area. The 2000-acre project would be the largest-ever development in the country and comprise of a theme park covered with glass on a 2,000 acre site.
According to a spokesman for the group of Irish and foreign investors, the project is at a very early stage in its development. It is also subject to the consortium finishing legal contracts with landowners and then securing planning permission.
“The consortium has considerable work to undertake before it considers lodging a formal planning application. In the event of securing planning permission, the consortium estimates that the first visitors to Vega City would be in approximately four years from the date of approval,” the spokesman said.
Responding to speculation after a report in yesterday’s Irish Independent, the consortium promised to outline its plans once it had dealt with certain issues in the coming months.
The group wants to build a Disney-style theme park, with but no planning application has been lodged yet. The park would have amusements, hotels, a giant lake for water sports, tourist accommodation and apartments, as well as a conference centre and hospital.
