FEARS of an algal bloom in Lough Lein, Killarney, have prompted Kerry County Council to erect warning signs along its shores.

Toxic blooms can appear in warm, calm weather and the signs have been put up around Lough Lein a well-known fishing lake and centrepiece of tourism in the area.

The last major bloom in Lough Lein was in 1997, though the lake has been polluted since the 1970s.
