Number of road deaths lowest in almost 40 years

ROAD deaths last year were the lowest in almost 40 years.

Provisional figures for road fatalities in 2003 compiled by the gardaí show 341 people lost their lives 35 fewer than in 2002.

The 2003 figure is the lowest and matches the recorded number of road fatalities in 1964.
