OPPOSITION leaders yesterday sought to hold former Health Minister Micheál Martin accountable for the nursing home charges scandal, accusing him of a dereliction of duty.

Attacking Mr Martin’s role in the affair, all opposition parties sought his resignation in what was an unsuccessful bid to claim the first political casualty of the affair.

Citing the terms of the 1997 Public Service Management Act, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said departmental ministers had to accept overall responsibility for the actions of their departments.
