INTO to intensify its campaign for smaller class sizes

THE Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) is to intensify a campaign to force the Government to meet a commitment on significantly reducing class sizes for younger children.

The 750 delegates at its annual congress next week are expected to strongly support a motion seeking urgent negotiations between officials and the Department of Education on the issue.

The 2002 Programme for Government includes a commitment to reduce average class sizes for children under nine.
