Taxation system is driving up cost of cars, survey finds

IRISH motorists are paying much more for cars than other European countries because of our taxation system.

An internet survey found dealers here charge higher prices on five out of six models they looked at. They checked average prices for the cars in eight countries, with France consistently showing up as one of the cheapest.

The price of a Toyota Yaris here is 18,700, almost double what French motorists have to pay, according to the survey by watchdog website, www.tiscali.co.uk
