People in Need Telethon gets revamp

THE hugely popular RTÉ People in Need Telethon will be held next month for the first time in three years.

Yesterday saw the launch of 50 Days & 50 Ways, marking the start of the 50-day countdown to this year’s Telethon on Friday, May 21.

Since its inception in 1988, €28.6 million has been raised by People in Need through the RTÉ Telethon to support a wide variety of charitable organisations. The Telethon, supported by Eircom, has always had a special emphasis on smaller, low-profile groups who would have difficulty in raising sufficient funds for themselves. Another special characteristic of the Telethon’s fundraising is that the money raised in each county is reallocated back to that county.
