Scandal brews over nursing home care

TREATMENT of elderly people in some nursing homes has the potential to be even more scandalous than the care of orphans during the 1950s and 1960s, a conference on improving patient safety in Dublin heard yesterday.

The charge was made by Stephen McMahon of the Irish Patients' Association.

"There are good quality nursing homes out there but we are concerned about the ones that aren't and where the elderly residents are too frightened to complain," he said.
