CIT to bounce doorway smokers

STAFF and students hoping to sneak a quick cigarette at the doorways of Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) are in for a rude awakening.

Student “bouncers” will enforce stringent rules on CIT’s Bishopstown campus this week as part of a project which will further crack down on smoking. Smoking has been banned indoors since last September.

“Designated smoking shelters have been provided, but many still favour smoking in the doorways of the buildings, causing more than one form of congestion,” a CIT spokeswoman said.
