Political seats under review

THE Government hopes to complete a review of the nation's European and Dáil constituencies within six months, Environment Minister Martin Cullen announced yesterday.

Yesterday the Cabinet gave approval for the appointment of High Court Judge Vivian Lavan as chair of the Constituency Commission which is tasked with making recommendations on changes to constituencies.

A reduction in the number of Irish MEPs from 15 to 13 will mean two constituencies will have less representation in Europe while declining populations in some areas could see further communities lose out on representation in the Dáil.
