A GROWING trend for doctors to use nurses who are employed by drug companies has been attacked by patients’ groups and a leading pharmacist.

At the moment, it is estimated that there are 50 nurses in the country who are being paid by drug firms and operating in GP clinics. Patients are often unaware of their ties to individual drug company.

“When a nurse is paid for by a company she has an agenda to push, so there’s an automatic question mark,” said Kerry-based pharmacist Jack Shanahan.
