Gardaí hunt woman car hijacker

GARDAÍ are searching for a woman who has twice hijacked men’s cars after meeting them in a red light district.

The latest incident happened last Sunday night when a man was approached by a woman in an area of Cork City known to be frequented by prostitutes. A garda spokesman said the woman put a knife to the driver’s throat and then hijacked his car which she drove in the direction of the northside of the city. Few details have been released about last Sunday’s incident, however, it is believed that it could have been the work of the same woman who attacked another man last month.

On that occasion the driver of a car also picked up a woman at Lapp’s Quay, near Connolly Hall.

The driver, who later had a knife held to his throat and his car stolen, said the woman asked him for a lift to nearby Kennedy Quay. He said that, on the way there, the woman made a call on her mobile phone.

When they arrived at Kennedy Quay the woman got out of the car and went over to the driver’s window which was open.

She then leaned in and put a knife to his throat.

A male accomplice came out of the shadows at the time and together with the woman robbed the man of a small some of money.

They then took the car keys, bundled him out of the car and drove off in it.

The car was later found by garda abandoned about a mile away on the Lower Glanmire Road.

“We are advising people to be extremely careful, if picking up anybody at night whom they don’t know,” said a garda spokesman.

The description of the woman involved in last month’s incident was between 25 and 30 years of age.

She was said to be of stocky build and around 5ft 5ins tall.

The woman was wearing a beige-coloured cap, a light blue top, dark tracksuit and white runners.

Her accomplice was understood to be around the same height.

He had black hair, a moustache and was wearing light-coloured runners.
