Garda hunt for biker who shot man in leg
The victim, in his early 30s, was shot in the leg in Finglas on Wednesday.
The man was taken to the Mater Hospital, where his injuries were described as not life-threatening. The shooting happened shortly before 9pm at Berryfield Drive in Finglas south.
Gardaí said a gunman drove up on a motorbike to a green area where the man was standing, fired one shot from a shotgun and rode off.
Gardaí from Finglas station were alerted and were at the scene within minutes. The motorbike used in the attack was later found burnt-out, depriving gardaí of forensic clues.
The attacker has not yet been identified. Gardaí were yesterday interviewing witnesses in the area.
It is not known if the attack was connected in any way with recent high-profile fatal shootings in the Finglas area. Early last month, local man Victor Murphy died after he accidentally shot himself in the head.
Murphy is understood to have discharged the shot as he tried to grab the shotgun to fire at petty drug dealers.
Gardaí have arrested people in relation to that incident.
In June, Finglas man William O’Regan was fatally injured in a shotgun attack at his flat in nearby Cabra in a suspected drugs row.
In April, Finglas man Michael Scott was shot in his bed in his flat in Ballymun by a Finglas criminal, apparently in a row over a woman.
In March, Charles Merriman, from Dublin’s north inner city, was shot dead and his body dumped on St Margaret’s Road in Finglas. Meanwhile, a young man was still fighting for his life yesterday after he plunged from an upstairs window following a suspected row.
The man suffered serious head injuries in the fall and was being treated at Beaumont Hospital. The incident occurred at a house on Dublin’s South Circular Road on Sunday morning.
