THE Government today stands accused of breaking most of the promises that secured the voters' confidence in the General Election just six months ago.

Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy’s outline of 2003 spending plans brings cutbacks in all departments, shattering promises on better health care, improved schools, safer streets and acceptable transport services.

The Government has opted to halt runaway public spending in one year, bringing fears the fall-out will hit many businesses already suffering the effects of economic slowdown.
