FINE GAEL is set to incur embarrassing losses in the local elections in Enda Kenny’s backyard of Connacht-Ulster.

According to an Irish Examiner Questions & Answers opinion poll, Sinn Féin is due to make massive gains in the nine counties making up the North-West constituency.

The poll conducted by Lansdowne Market Research shows Fine Gael support in the local elections is down to just 24% down seven per cent on the party's 1999 performance.
