U2 FRONTMAN Bono yesterday compared the band winning five Grammy Awards to winning the World Cup for Ireland.

“We are the football team and tonight we have won the World Cup,” Bono told 2FM’s Gerry Ryan show.

He was speaking live from an after-Grammy party in Santa Monica, California, where the band was celebrating scooping five awards, emerging as the big winners in the 2006 Grammys.
