THE countdown has ended for almost 59,000 students who begin the Leaving Certificate this morning.

Two English papers will provide the first challenge for the group, the lowest number to sit the exam in over 15 years.

The first Leaving Cert religious education paper will be taken by 165 students on June 23, while the last economic history exam takes place next Wednesday.
