Wrong baby woman may take legal action

A WOMAN who was given the wrong baby in a hospital mix-up has not ruled out taking legal action to compensate her and her family for the ordeal.

The mix-up was discovered late on Wednesday night in St Finbarr’s Hospital in Cork after Teresa McGrath and another woman with the same surname had spent the entire day with the wrong baby boy. Teresa’s baby ended up being breastfed by the wrong mother. Both babies had been born within five hours of each other.

“I am very angry with the hospital,” said Teresa McGrath. “ This is not acceptable and it is a huge trauma. It will always be fresh in my head that I nearly went home with the wrong baby. I nearly didn’t have my own child.”
