AN POST is exaggerating the extent of its losses in a bid to force further concessions from workers, the Communications’ Workers Union (CWU) claimed yesterday.

As An Post today declares operating losses of €43m for last year, outgoing CWU general secretary Con Scanlon told delegates at the union's biennial conference in Galway that it was not acceptable for workers to pay dearly for the failings of management.

"Declaring a financial crisis has now become a cornerstone of the new management plan, and bouncing staff into a restructuring on the back of it, the solution to all the company ills."
