Fianna Fáil wins fifth Waterford recruit from enemy ranks

LISMORE Town Council member Helen O’Sullivan has become the fifth public representative in Co Waterford in recent years to switch political allegiances to Fianna Fáil.

Co-opted as an independent to replace the late Dick Canning, Ms O’Sullivan has confirmed she is joining Fianna Fáil and will contest the June local elections as an official party candidate.

Her decision has been greeted enthusiastically by the FF top brass in the constituency and has been described as a “major vote of confidence in the party and its policies’’ by councillor Pat Leahy, who is also the constituency representative on the national executive.
