More sign language interpreters needed

IRELAND has only 15 qualified interpreters to cater for the 4,000 people who use sign language every day.

More people use sign language all day, every day, in their normal life than use Irish as a first language.

There are over 4,000 sign language users nationwide. And many more thousands of deaf people depend on lip reading in everyday life. Yet there are only 15 qualified and available interpreters in the country.
