A 38-year-old man appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court on Saturday charged with murder.

William Moran senior, 17, St Senan’s Street, St Mary’s Park, Limerick, was charged with the murder of Jonathan Edwards (22), at St Ita’s Street, St Mary’s Park, on August 28, 2001.

Det/Sergt. Jim Ryan, Mayorstone Garda Station, gave evidence of arresting the accused at the Island Road in the city on Friday night at 8.55 pm and charging him with the alleged offence. In reply to the charge after caution, the accused said he had nothing to say.

Moran was remanded in custody to the court sitting on Thursday, November 21 next.

Mr Edwards, from Abbeyvale, Corbally, Limerick city, was a father of two who was buried on the day of his 22nd birthday.

He died at Cork University Hospital on September 2, after being transferred from the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where he had been admitted with head injuries. Mr Edwards had been on a life support machine for five days.
