Pressure is growing on government to sanction extra finance for an extended runway at the South East Regional Airport in Waterford. Business leaders also want flights to Dublin which would make linking to other European and world hubs much easier.

Just last week, Genzyme senior vice president Mark Bamforth said while Waterford is proving an invaluable base for the multi-national biotechnology company, getting in and out of the city is difficult.
