Teenager groped, abused in attack

The woman, who was groped and verbally abused, smashed a carton of apple juice in the man’s face, likely saving herself from a more serious assault.

She was attacked as she walked alone through a part of Wexford town known as Belvedere Grove just after midday on Monday.

Gardaí are treating the assault as serious and hope to arrest someone in relation to the attack before the weekend.

The woman was grabbed from behind and pushed to the ground by the attacker. She was able to give a vague description of the man, saying he was in his 30s and was Irish.

When the man pushed the woman to the ground, he fondled her and verbally abused her, whispering obscenities. She managed to wrestle free and smash into his nose the carton of juice she had been drinking.

The incident, which lasted a minute or two, left the woman shocked and stunned.

She contacted immediately local gardaí.

A garda spokesman said gardaí were hopeful of making a breakthrough before the weekend.
