Review of teacher training is still unclear

A PLANNED major review of teacher training is unclear as Education Minister Mary Hanafin prepares to formally establish the Teaching Council tomorrow.

The minister wants to make major changes to courses taken by teachers but there is uncertainty whether such changes should be governed by her or the council.

It has been working informally for the past year on preparing to fulfil its functions, one of which is to review and accredit teacher education programmes.
