A HOST of the biggest stars in pop descended on The Point last night for the seventh annual Cheerios Childline concert.

Among the headline acts were chart-toppers Rachel Stevens, Westlife, Girls Aloud and Gareth Gates.

“It’s my first time performing in Dublin since I was with S-Club 7 and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Rachel Stevens.

The recent break-up with her fiancé didn’t appear like it was going to deter Stevens from letting her hair down in Dublin.

“I’m going to have a good night although I haven’t quite decided yet about attending the after party,” said the pop beauty.

The event, which raised €250,000 for Childline has made international names of some of its acts in the past and a number of them were back on stage last night to perform in front of a capacity audience.

The concert was hosted for the second year running by Westlife’s Nicky Byrne and Bryan McFadden. “Childline was where we started, so we’re delighted to be hosting. It’s brilliant fun,” said Nicky.

The star also said he had read the now-famous novel, written by his sister-in-law Cecelia Ahern. “I did shed a tear. I read the book on flights and I absolutely loved it,” said Nicky.

Bryan McFadden meanwhile, suggested he was really looking forward to his wife Kerry’s performance on the third instalment of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, which starts on UTV tonight. .

Fame Academy star Lemar, who also performed last night, explained he was hoping to pick up at least one gong at the forthcoming Brit Awards.

The concert, the latest in a series which has raised €1.5 million for Childline, also featured acts including, Simon Casey, Hazel Kaneswarren, No Way Out and D’Vine. The show will be broadcast on Network 2 next Sunday night at 6pm.
