PROVISIONS for the long-term care of elderly people in nursing homes are in complete turmoil and must be reviewed urgently, Age Action Ireland has warned.

The call comes following a leaked Government report which proposes that the cost of long-term care could be recovered from the property or assets of an elderly person posthumously.

The unpublished report, drawn up by a Government review group also proposes stricter needs assessments and the elimination of State funding after someone has been in long-term care for more than three months.
