INSURANCE companies have paid out over €38 million to homeowners and businesses following the serious flooding two months ago.

But insurers have called for more preventative measures and damage limitations from the Government to deal with any future serious floods and storms.

The Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) revealed yesterday that the bulk of almost 2,800 claimants were householders affected by the October floods. More than 1,600 policy holders have been issued €9.9m in response to their claims.
