Public order offenders face fines in crackdown

ON-THE-SPOT fines for public order offences are being considered to crack down on late-night street crime.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell also wants to give extra powers to the courts to close pubs caught serving alcohol to people who are already drunk.

And he wants offenders who are given probation in the courts to pay towards garda and legal expenses.
