Pay-by-weight waste system planned

ENVIRONMENT Minister Martin Cullen is set to announce plans for the introduction of a national pay-by-weight waste collection system.

Local authorities are expected to learn that they must introduce the system, which is aimed at rewarding households which produce less waste by charging them less money.

Pay-by-weight schemes are in place in a number of areas, most notably in parts of Cork and Monaghan.
