Border watch for illegal immigrants

GARDAÍ are set to be stationed at airports, harbours and ports in the North to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing the border.

At least six officers from the Garda National Immigration Bureau will be assigned to the operation, which will be run in conjunction with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The Department of Justice estimates that 80% of illegal immigrants come to Ireland via Northern Ireland.
