Irish edges closer to official EU recognition

EU OFFICIALS are to investigate the use of Irish in everyday life.

The move follows yesterday’s surprise decision by the Government to apply to have Irish declared as an official working language of the European Union.

The Cabinet decision was heavily influenced by strong lobbying at all levels of the political system.
