Harney is on the move for new home
The Progressive Democrat leader and her husband, Brian Geoghegan, are currently seeking a new home following their decision to place their current residence in Ballsbridge on the property market.
An asking price of 620,000 has been set for the two-bedroom, mid-terrace house at 11 Serpentine Terrace, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
The Tánaiste bought the red-brick, Edwardian property for just 86,350 back in 1990 while living as a single woman. Since then, it has been completely refurbished to Ms Harney's designs by her brother, Michael.
The 1,000-sq ft house which is located in a quiet, secluded, cul-de-sac was built in 1903. The brochure by selling agent, Bennetts, describes the property as “charming”.
It adds: “It is tastefully presented throughout with original period features and complemented by a wonderful, secluded, rear garden with a sunny south-west aspect.”
The property, which is for sale by private treaty, comprises a living/dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, two beds, a bathroom and gardens. The couple said they were planning to move to a larger dwelling, although they are anxious to remain somewhere in the same vicinity because of its convenience for commuting to work in the city centre. “We’ve been very happy here and were in fact married from this house,” said Ms Harney “But we do need more space.”
But, she did not indicate a preference for whether her new home would move her closer to Boston or Berlin.
