Bus and rail chaos as transport workers protest

THOUSANDS of bus and rail passengers face major disruption today despite last-minute attempts to call off a protest by transport workers.

Transport Minister Seamus Brennan invited union leaders to talks over his plans to break-up CIÉ and open up bus routes to competition.

But the National Bus and Rail Workers' Unions (NBRU) and SIPTU rejected his calls and said they had no reason to believe he was any more serious in telling them the full details of his plans than he was last year.
