Tough new laws in bid to stamp out illegal dumping

A NEW government unit has been set up in the North up to crack a multi-million pound illegal dumping racket by criminal gangs from the Republic.

Tough laws have been introduced to clamp down on criminal gangs that transport waste across the Border into the North.

Vehicles used to transport refuse into Northern Ireland can now be impounded and their drivers hauled through the courts.
