ALCOHOLIC drinks bought in off licences are to be traceable as the Government bids to clampdown on underage drinking, and drunken, disorderly behaviour.

Under measures contained in the Intoxicating Liquor Bill, due to be published next week, drinks sold in all off licences are to be traceable to point of purchase, Justice Minister Michael McDowell told the Oireachtas Justice Committee yesterday.

The measure was suggested last month by the Labour Party in its policy document on alcohol abuse.
