Call for convenience stores to provide receipts

CONVENIENCE stores should be compelled by law to provide receipts for customers to prevent them being ripped off by inaccurate price information.

Fine Gael yesterday said that consumer feedback on its Ripoff.ie website provided ample evidence that consumers are often charged more at the till than they should be.

The party’s spokesman on enterprise, Phil Hogan TD, said the website had received “volumes of email” complaining about prices charged in convenience stores.
